Privacy notice
Last updated 7 November 2026
This notice explains what Aktis does with your email address when you download Stratus from this site, and how to stop it.
Who we are
Aktis makes Stratus and is responsible for (the “controller” of) the personal data described here. For questions or requests, email arctissounds@gmail.com.
What we collect
When you sign up for the free download we store:
- your email address;
- that you agreed to receive our emails, the exact wording you agreed to, and the date and time;
- which Stratus version you downloaded and how many times you signed up for a download.
If you unsubscribe, we also store when you did. We don't keep your IP address with your sign-up (like any web host, Vercel briefly logs requests for security and operations), and this site has no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
Why, and on what legal basis
- Emails from Aktis. We email you about Stratus and other Aktis plugins: updates, new releases and offers. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a)).
- The free download. Stratus is free in exchange for joining the mailing list, so the download unlocks once you tick the box. You can unsubscribe straight after downloading and keep using Stratus.
- Proof of consent. We keep the record of your consent, and of your unsubscribe, to show that we only email people who agreed (GDPR art. 6(1)(c) with art. 7(1)).
Cookies
When you sign up we set one cookie, stratus_dl. It lets this browser download the Stratus files for 24 hours. It holds no personal data, only an expiry time and a signature. It is strictly necessary for the download you asked for, so it doesn't need your consent. The fonts on this site are served from this site, not from Google or another font service.
Who handles your data
We don't sell or rent your email address. These services process it on our behalf:
- Vercel
- hosts this site and runs the sign-up, in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Neon
- the database that holds the mailing list, in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Email service
- when we start sending emails we'll use an email service provider, and name it here before the first email goes out.
Vercel and Neon are US companies. Where they access data from outside the EU, the transfer is covered by the EU standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
We keep your address for as long as you're subscribed. When you unsubscribe we stop emailing you straight away, and keep your address and the consent record for two more years, so we can prove we had your permission and make sure we don't email you again. After that they are deleted automatically. You can ask us to delete them sooner.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, to limit or stop its use, or to send it to you in a portable format. Email arctissounds@gmail.com and we'll answer within one month.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing below. That stops future emails; it doesn't affect emails we sent before.
If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or to the authority in your own EU country.
Unsubscribe
Every email we send will also have an unsubscribe link.
Changes to this notice
If we change this notice we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your email address, we'll tell you by email first.
